Holistic Massage is a relaxing and revitalising treatment using moderate pressure and slow relaxing strokes, including a variety of other techniques depending on the client's individual needs.
This treatment is more general than Deep Tissue or Sports Massage, focusing on relaxing the body and mind. It is recommended for people who do not have specific pain or injuries but are dealing with stress, fatigue and a busy lifestyle.
Sports Massage is therapy that involves the manipulation of soft tissue for those engaged in regular physical activity. The soft tissues of the body includes skin, muscles, tendons, ligaments and fascia. This form of massage is designed to detect and assist in correcting imbalances born from repeated physical activity or injury.
Each treatment is preceded by a consultation and physical assessment to evaluate imbalances in the body and establish any other contributing factors such as lifestyle and medical history.
Using a variety of different techniques, the aim of sports massage is to assist in the prevention of injuries, aid in recovery after exercise or injury and possibly enhance performance. While Sports Massage can be relaxing, it is more of a remedial therapy, targeted to particular areas of the body in order to provide the best outcome for the client.
Deep Tissue Massage
Deep Tissue Massage is a therapy that focuses on treating muscle pain and stiffness by using sustained slow, deep strokes and compressions to achieve a lasting release of tension by working deeper into the layers of muscle and connective tissue.
This can also improve the flow of nutrients throughout the body, increase range of movement and reduce inflammation as well as breaking up adhesions and scar tissue.
Myofascial Release is a treatment methodology that focuses on the treatment of the fascia, a web-like matrix that encases, connects and supports every other structure in the body. It is made up of collagen, elastin and a watery ground substance. Fascia can easily by affected by trauma, posture and inflammation causing it to shorten, thicken and solidify. This can result in a loss of mobility, pain and stiffness among other issues.
This hands on treatment is especially slow and sustained in order to properly connect with the fascia and allow it to release, using gentle pressure and no oils.
Pregnancy Massage is a specially designed treatment for women after their first trimester of pregnancy. Pregnancy is a time of immense physical change and stress on the body and this massage aims to address these directly.
Using a fairly light and even touch, this massage focuses on reducing stress, improving sleep, reducing pain in the legs and back and improving mood. I massage pregnant clients in a side-lying position using cushions to ensure their comfort in this position.
